There hasn’t been many times in my FFA career where I’ve taken a moment to see everything around me and take it all in. But the times I have taken that moment have shown me its importance. Those moments are the ones I look back on and remember what I stand for.
The first flashback I’ll take you to is at the Chapter Officer Leadership Training back in September. After the amazing time I had connecting with members, everyone began to leave while Edwina and I were picking up trash outside when I stopped in my tracks. I kind of had a main character Disney moment and said this to Edwina. “Hold on Edwina, look over at the lake for a minute. And just relax and take in this monumental moment.” She said, “You’re right Jackson.” So we stood there for a moment and we started to walk towards the lake. I walked towards the campfire area while Edi split off to the dock. We each took our moments to breathe in the fresh fall air and think about all the times at this camp. After about 15 minutes we met back up at the mess hall and shared a look. A look that meant the moment we took for ourselves was meaningful. Simple moments such as those 2 days of COLT Conference are more than the lessons throughout the workshops but the memories each conversation, each sing-along before dinner, and each late-night talk in the cabins bring.
The next flashback brings us to the city of Indianapolis to the 98th National FFA Convention! A rollercoaster of emotions throughout this week between stress, sadness, exhaustion, and overwhelming happiness! My first attendance as a state officer meant getting there early, sitting through meetings, and of course getting to see all my best friends from other states. During every session I danced on the floor with my friends and sat through the retiring address of the National Officers. But during those sessions as I sat by the stage, I looked back at the thousands of blue jackets in the stands and saw all the gold lettering glisten as the lights ran across. During that moment, the feeling of accomplishment came over me. I saw who I represented and the organization I wear on my back. But it’s not just on me, but every member.
Every FFA member shares 1 thing in common. The emblem. Taking the moment in your day to remember the emblem on your back, on your shirt, or in your heart helps you see the important memories and the moments you share. Find those times to cherish those moments.
Thanks for reading and best wishes,
